After Earth is a movie with Will and Jaden Smith.  The story is about a father with his son who are forced to crash land on earth and have to figure out a way to get back home.  I remember when the movie came out in 2013.  I was going to watch it but the movie got such bad reviews I decided to postpone seeing it and then I forgot all about it.  Up until this point these two couldn’t do any wrong.  In a recent interview with Will Smith, Will opened up about the intensity of the bullying Jaden received that caused Jaden to temporarily try to divorce Will as a parent.  Making this movie caused personal trauma for Jaden and their whole family.

Fast forward my life a couple years later when this movie was added to the Netflix Canadian catalogue.  When I saw it come up on my feed I decided to watch it, and as the movie is unfolding I can understand why people responded with such hate.  You see, we live in a society where people allow fear to rule and ruin their lives. You see it in the form of people avoiding confrontation and forms of consciousness, hiding behind materialism and denial and not moving on from trauma or embracing their purpose and feeling sorry for themselves.  This movie is literally the bible to learn about fear, but people went to see the movie to be entertained.  Imagine their surprise when they thought that they were going to watch another blockbuster movie that they thought were going to distract them from their problems and shut off their brains but instead got a movie that made them think about the most self damaging emotion we have.  The emotional intelligence in this movie was way too high, but even I wasn’t spiritually mature enough to watch the movie in theatres. The universe hid it from me until I was ready to see it on Netflix

This movie will literally empower you to conquer your fear and become everything that you want to be in life, but a lot of people don’t want that for themselves.  So the collective ego got mad and cowardly went after Jaden, where it knew it would inflict the most damage because they knew that Will Smith would have been able to handle it.  And on top of that, who goes after a kid?!  See whenever extreme good that will result in freeing people’s mind from darkness is done there is always negative spiritual backlash that will express itself through people.  The negative forces in this world made sure that Will and Jaden were punished for trying to teach and free the world from fear.  I mean freeing someone from fear could mean the next Jaden Smith, or the next Mark Zukerburg, or the next restaurant owner, the next doctor, the next basketball coach that keeps kids off the streets…

If you study the principles of fear in this movie instead of watching it to be entertained, it is a whole different experience.  I have used what I’ve learned in this movie to teach women in shelters, in my life coaching practice, workshops and my mastermind group about fear and how to master it.  I even based the second chapter of my book around this movie just to show you how impactful this movie has been in the lives of women, not to mention the way this movie has helped to process my own fear. I wish this movie was marketed as a self development movie instead of just another sci fi movie. Everything from the animals, and elements of nature, to the Ursa and the relationship between the boy and his father will expand and help you to process fear.  I have watched this movie at least 30 times.  I’m watching it right now as I’m writing this blog and I’m still learning new things.

This movie was ahead of its time and a masterpiece in self development.  You see, everything that I’m learning about the Smiths with the Red Table Talk, Will Smith’s book and this movie, shows me how intuitive and instruments of healing this family is to the world.  This movie was bigger than just the entertainment world, or the Smiths.  This movie chose them.  Even though they got ripped apart by the collective ego, it healed women in Canada.  I believe it will be healing all over the world when people are taught how to approach the movie.  Fear will destroy you if you let it.  I’m sorry they went through so much backlash for this movie, but I’m not sorry that they made it. This movie taught me how to conquer my fear so I can be free to do the work that I do.  If you’re a person that takes their self development seriously then watch this movie, but study it. Write down everything you can learn from the movie and apply what you’ve learned in your own life, it will help you.  Let me end this blog with a quote from the movie:

“Fear is not real.  The only place fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future, it is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity Kitai.  Now to not misunderstand me, danger is very real. But fear is a choice. We are all telling ourselves a story, and that day mine changed.”
